RDM support in Switzerland is offered by a variety of institutions:

• These institutions operate in a diverse setting of stakeholders that determine the legal and financial framework. Among universities, most are funded by their respective canton.
• Some universities of applied sciences and/or of education operate in multiple cantons.
• The ETH domain, which includes two universities and four research institutes, is directly funded by the Swiss Federation.
   

Other important stakeholders in Higher Education which set general requirements for proper RDM in Switzerland are:

• Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)
• swissuniversities, the umbrella organisation of the Swiss universities (including universities of teacher education and applied sciences)
• Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences 

The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) is a leading body in higher education politics and distributes federal subsidies to most of the above-mentioned institutions. It is part of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER).
